UnderContrac

UnderContrac, a real estate investment platform, asked me to evaluate their current concept and recommend ways to improve the user journey for both developers and investors.

In addition to a UX audit of their branding and messaging, I designed flows and interfaces for their signup/onboarding process and investor browsing experience, with attention to FINRA compliance and scalability.

The Challenge

My evaluation uncovered three main UX gaps:

  • Inconsistent branding weakened trust.

  • Homepage lacked clarity on the core value proposition.

  • About page missed credibility elements (mission, metrics, team).

I provided targeted recommendations to address the issues on the about page and redesigned the homepage, ensuring UnderContrac can communicate legitimacy and engage users effectively.

Before

After

My Approach

I structured my process into two parallel tracks:

  1. Audit + Recommendations (homepage, About, brand consistency).

  2. Design Deliverables (wireframes and high-fidelity mockups of signup flow and investor browsing experience).

Audit Recommendations

Even without redesigning the homepage or About page, I identified quick wins that could improve usability:

  • Brand Consistency: Unify fonts across site and images to strengthen credibility.

  • About Page: Add mission statement, team credentials, and metrics to build trust.

Developer Onboarding Flow

The sign-up and onboarding flow was designed mobile-first to match user behavior patterns. Key steps included:

  1. Sign-Up Screen: Simple form with name, email, password, and location.

  2. Email Verification: Security check to build trust.

  3. Profile Details: Company, title, experience for tailored dashboards.

  4. Project Submission: FINRA-compliant disclosure and risk acceptance.

This structure balanced ease-of-use with regulatory compliance, ensuring legitimacy for developers joining the platform.

Investor Browsing Experience

To improve discoverability and transparency, I designed an investor interface that includes:

  • Explore View: Map + filters, hover previews.

  • Project Detail Page: Rich descriptions, bios, funding progress bars.

  • Future Investment Breakdown: Placeholder design for modular scalability.

Key micro-interactions:

  • Hover pop-ups for discoverability with minimal clutter.

  • Progress indicators for transparent, real-time feedback.

Impact & Learnings

My work helped UnderContrac envision how targeted UX improvements could:

  • Increase credibility with investors and developers.

  • Improve user acquisition through a clearer onboarding process.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance without adding friction.

  • Create a scalable foundation for future features.
